My grandmother was Annie Fraser, born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. My great-grandfather was Sir John George Fraser, lawyer and sometime deputy president of the Volksraad of the Orange Free State Republic. Later he played a key role in negotiations with the British during the Anglo-Boer War. My great-great grandfather was the Reverend Colin MacKenzie Fraser, who arrived in South Africa in the 1820s.
