My grandfather on my mother's side was Donald Fraser, born in Cromarty, married a Northumbrian girl (Alice Thompson) and served in the Engineers during WW2. He had a son, Donald, and two daughters, Christine and Alison, my mother, and when I got married I chose to take the surname again to keep it alive. I now have a son, Arthur Fraser, and two daughters, Isla Fraser and Matilda Fraser, we also had a son Donald, but he died before he was born.
I followed in my forefathers footsteps and joined the army, serving first in the Kings Royal Hussars and currently the First Fusiliers in Tidworth (a Northumbrian regiment), I demanded to join 4Scots to be a Highlander, but my wife didn't want to live in the far north sadly. We had our honeymoon in Rosemarkie and attended one of the Clan Fraser gatherings in 2009.
In terms of continuing the tradition of soldiering handed me by my forefathers (my grandfather and both his father and grandfather were soldiers) I have competed in strength contests and train for strongman with the intention of travelling north to lift the Stones of Strength, particularly the one in Rosemarkie bay. I also train backhold wrestling and Greco-Roman grappling and should I come north in the summer to fight I will wear the Lovat tartan, as I did on my wedding day.
