I am a direct descendant of, Margaret Fraser, the natural daughter of General Simon Fraser, Master of Lovat b. 1726. Her marriage to Colonel Tegart, and her children's subsequent immigration to Upper Canada, established the Tegart line in North America. My great grandmother, Eliza Jane Tegart, like all the Tegart family, celebrated her descent from General Simon Fraser, also an MP, who raised the 78th Highlanders in the years following the execution of his father, Simon "the Fox" Fraser. General Fraser's military role in the creation of Canada is particularly significant to us Canadian descendants on the Tegart/Fraser line. Historian Ralph Harper's book, The Fraser Highlanders (1979), and Clan Fraser of Canada were helpful in verifying the family story told by the Tegarts since their arrival in Canada of their Fraser ancestry.
